Shocking moment: House explodes in Arlington, Virginia, after a person barricaded inside fired at police officers preparing to rush inside

It looked like a scene from an action movie when a home in the Washington suburb of Arlington, Virginia, went up in flames during a standoff Monday night.

Police said a person inside the home fired at officers as they attempted to enter the home.

“An explosion subsequently occurred in the residence and officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion,” Arlington authorities said in a statement.

The explosion left a home in the Bluemont neighborhood ablaze.

Rescue workers are trying to put out the fire while residents have either been evacuated or told to shelter in place.
