What was supposed to be just a little affection and taking photos with you bison American Halen Carbajal suffered a 20 centimeter gash on his stomach and a broken rib. Unaware that he might be attacked, the boy carelessly approached the animal and suffered an attack that required rescue by helicopter.

The case occurred late last month in the US state of Utah as Halen was preparing to come home for Thanksgiving. Accompanied by his girlfriend, the boy was surprised by the “giant” on a neighbor’s farm and decided to stop to take photos with the bison.

However, the meeting did not end well for Halen. The boy, who volunteers for an environmental organization, told local station KUTV that he approached and began petting the bison, which lowered its head, hit it in the stomach area, pierced it with its horn and lifted it into the air.

“I was definitely an idiot in this situation. I jumped over and then walked backwards and the bison followed me. I thought, ‘This is cool.’ I wanted to pet him, so I was innocent and made the move, and then “He hit me hard,” explained the boy, now recovering at home.

The attack resulted in Halen being taken by helicopter to Utah Valley Hospital. There, doctors diagnosed a 20 centimeterlong cut in the boy’s stomach, which also had a broken rib, a ruptured liver and a damaged lung.

Faith HeatonJolley, spokeswoman for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, said people often think bison are tame because they look like oxen and cows. However, they are wild animals and require careful handling. “They are unpredictable and can become aggressive if you get too close.”

Bison are from the same family as buffalo and are native to the United States and Europe. The “giants” can reach a height of 1.7 meters and a body length of 3.6 meters and weigh more than a ton. In addition, they are known for their mane, which changes color depending on the season.
