A significant increase in the salary cap next season

National Hockey League (NHL) teams will have an additional $4 million on payroll next season.

This is a significant increase as the price has hardly changed in recent years. Sportsnet reporter Elliotte Friedman reported that the amount discussed at Monday’s gubernatorial meeting was $87.675 million.

In early October, Commissioner Gary Bettman said preliminary discussions suggested a payroll range of between $87 million and $88 million. This will already make a difference compared to the $83.5 million available to the 32 teams in 2023-2024.

Before this season, an additional million dollars was donated to the teams. The NHL justified this tentative increase with the escrow deposits that players have to guarantee due to the loss of income during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Tuesday, governors could discuss expansion, the Arizona Coyotes or even allocation in the 2024 draft. According to various media sources, the famous Sphere in Las Vegas would be a possible target.
