A man is facing a slew of charges after he was found with serious gunshot wounds in a Calgary home where police also found guns and drugs.
Calgary police said Monday that they responded to a residence around 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 18 after receiving reports of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
After inspecting the home, police seized firearms, body armor, ammunition and drugs totaling approximately $293,460.
Following the search, 27-year-old Omar El Gad faces multiple charges related to firearm possession, including reckless use of a firearm.
Mr. El Gad is also charged with possession of substances intended for trafficking and possession of bulletproof vests without a license.
The circumstances under which the man was shot remain unclear and have not been elaborated upon by police.
The defendant was heard in court on Monday and no suspect is currently in custody.
