The 49ers left Philadelphia with a 42-19 win over the Eagles, but also with a few injuries that could hamper them for a game or two.
Kyle Shanahan said in a conference call Monday that Ross Dwelley suffered a severe ankle sprain that will keep the tight end out of action for at least a few weeks.
The head coach hasn’t heard from general manager John Lynch about the team being interested in free-agent tight end Zach Ertz, and therefore doesn’t believe that would be a possibility for the team in the near future.
Defensive lineman Arik Armstead continues to deal with an unspecified foot injury and a knee issue caused by Sunday’s game. Shanahan did not specify whether the veteran will miss time as the 49ers await more information.
“He had to knock it out,” Shanahan said of Armstead after the game. “I think he went out in the second half. He kept coming in and out throughout the game, but I was told that he was officially out, I will say, at the start of the fourth quarter.”
Spencer Burford suffered a knee injury after the game, but not the same knee that kept him off the field in Week 12. The offensive guard does have a chance to play in the team’s next game against the Seattle Seahawks, but if he’s unavailable, Jon Feliciano could step in.
“He had a really good week of practice,” Shanahan said of Burford. “We wanted to see how healthy he was during the week, and when he added up all three days, we felt really good about his tape. We weren’t planning on keeping Jon out.
“We still had plans for him to play something. We wanted to take it one series at a time and Spencer held his own, did a good job and didn’t have any setbacks from previous weeks, so we left it at that and thought he had a good game.”
Cornerback Darrell Luter Jr., who played 12 special teams games, suffered a hamstring injury that will likely sideline the rookie for at least one game.
Wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, who missed Sunday with a rib injury, remains active. If the return specialist can’t play on Sunday, the club could turn to Deebo Samuel for kickoff returns and rookie Ronnie Bell for punt returns, as they did in Philadelphia.
