The important dispute between the Quebec couple murdered in the Caribbean and their neighbors had the backdrop of an ordinary public road that one of the suspects had been trying to block for years, in particular by digging a ditch and setting it on fire.

In 2018, the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court ruled that Morne Rouge Road was actually a taxpayer-paid public road after Jonathan Lehrer, one of the double murder suspects, blocked it. This road, which crosses the suspicious couple’s tourist plantation, is actually the only path that leads to the victims’ environmentally conscious hotel complex.

The arrested American had already tried to prevent passage by laying stones, digging a trench and installing metal pipes, according to a ruling obtained by Le Journal.
The suspect not only blocked access to Daniel Langlois’ potential customers, but also prevented employees from moving freely and safely.
According to local media, they had also held a demonstration near the Coulibri Ridge Resort, the environmentally conscious hotel run by the victims, to denounce the attitude of Jonathan and Victoria Lehrer. The American started a fire with branches, presumably with the aim of intimidation.
Second Street
Before the court, Daniel Langlois had envisaged the construction of a second public road as a possible solution to put an end to this disagreement. However, the court decided instead to hold mediation sessions so that the owners could find a solution together.
In addition to his arguments with his neighbors, Jonathan Lehrer appeared to adopt a hostile and sometimes even aggressive demeanor toward anyone traveling on Morne Rouge Road.
Negative testimonials from dissatisfied customers are pouring in on various websites such as Google, Trip Advisor and Facebook. Some say they were followed by the owner in his SUV until they pulled off the road, others say they were yelled at by his wife for showing up without an appointment.
