TCM is airing two gems for film fans today: Kenneth Lonergan’s “Manchester by the Sea” and Ken Loach’s “Sorry, We Missed You.” Antena 3, for its part, broadcasts the fifth part of the Cristo y Rey series. In 2, the Curiosity room offers a journey from underground to above through caves and mountains. In addition, the documentary series Abandoned Engineering has a new date at DMAX.
‘Sorry, we missed you’
17.40, TCM
United Kingdom, 2019 (100 minutes). Director: Ken Loach. Cast: Kris Hitchen, Debbie Honeywood.
Once again, Ken Loach has committed himself to looking at the present to create a work that emerges from the immediacy of a camera that captures reality. His characters are precarious workers who realize that their existence is a daily misery that leads to a life without life. Urgent cinema, necessary cinema.
“Manchester by the Sea”
10 p.m., TCM
Manchester by the Sea. USA 2016 (137 minutes). Directed by: Kenneth Lonergan. Cast: Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams, Lucas Hedges.
Achieve maximum intensity with the greatest expressive rigor. This is the stylistic bet of an inscrutable film of unusual depth, focusing on the inner pain of a man devastated by a dramatic past and the burden of guilt.
Caves and mountains, in “Curiosity”
10 p.m., La 2
The program La 2, which approaches science from a curious perspective, proposes this week a journey underground and later above ground. This shows how science accompanied people during their settlement and how orography and geology were important in the places where they settled. The room will visit the creation of the Águila Caves in the Tiétar Valley, Castellfollit in Girona, but also places in the heights such as the Atienza Castle in Guadalajara.
A journey into abandoned technology
10:30 p.m., DMAX
The documentary series Abandoned Engineering explores the abandoned places whose rubble hides the remnants of strange technologies and societies. This time it moves to a city in Azerbaijan that was destroyed in a conflict decided by a new weapon of war. Also to an industrial ruin in Florida and a community in Indonesia destroyed by an invisible force.
Fifth episode of “Christ and King”
10:45 p.m., antenna 3
The characters of Cristo y Rey, the series created by Daniel Écija, face further conflict in an episode that tells how Ángel and Bárbara begin to live together in the circus after their honeymoon. The star doesn’t want to be a mere vase and aspires to be an elephant tamer. His debut is a huge success and the performances multiply, but jealousy takes its toll on the tamer as he begins to discover some relationships in his wife’s past.
