Normal train traffic has been restored in the tunnel from

Railway traffic between Atocha and Recoletos resumed early this Wednesday after Adif resolved the incident that affected this important section since Tuesday afternoon, when a train on line C10 of Cercanías Madrid from Villalba derailed as it was about to enter Atocha on platform 5 Since the accident, the convoys have been running on a single track, causing significant delays across the network as half of the routes were affected, as well as those passing through the tunnel – the C1, C2, C7, C8 and C10― to change the routes and frequencies of some medium and long-distance trains heading south. This is the second incident with similar characteristics in the same tunnel in just nine days.

Adif and Renfe technicians transported the affected train away “under safe conditions” and repaired the damaged infrastructure. “About 60 Renfe and Adif employees took part in these actions, in addition to reinforcing the staff of the information and customer service teams,” the railway company emphasizes in a statement.

The restoration of traffic on the two tracks between Atocha and Recoletos will allow the restoration of normal operations on the affected Cercanías routes, as well as on medium and long-distance trains to or from Alcázar de San Juan, Jaén, Almería or Extremadura, which also circulate along this section .
