The Venezuelan president ordered the document to be made public and distributed to schools and public institutions in the country
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced this on his profile on Tuesday (December 5, 2023). X, what he called “the new map of Venezuela,” including the incorporated territory of Guyana. In a referendum on Sunday (December 3), more than 95% of voters approved the creation of a Venezuelan state called Guayana Essequiba in what is now the neighboring country.
“I immediately ordered the publication and distribution of the new map of Venezuela with our Essequiba Guyana to all schools, colleges, local councils, public institutions, universities and every home in the country. This is our beloved card!,” he wrote in the post’s caption.
Also on Tuesday (December 5), Maduro presented a bill that will regulate the creation of the new state. House members will discuss the proposal this Wednesday (December 6).
The Venezuelan president also ordered PDVSA the Venezuelan state oil company to issue licenses for oil and gas exploration in the region.
