At the height of his career, in his forties, José Gaudet was struck by “extraordinary dizziness” and the fear of losing everything, which completely paralyzed him.
“It hurt me, I suffered morally, emotionally and physically,” admits the 53-year-old comedian.
“I was afraid of everything. I said to myself: I am living exactly the life I wanted to do and dreamed of; Give happiness to the world and make people laugh, but I panicked. I was afraid of having bad luck [malchances]“continues the man who is currently working on his first solo exhibition, Y’tait time!
This difficult and fearful time caused him to suffer in all aspects of his life for almost three years. In his private life with Eve, his wife at the time, with his children and in his career.
This strong feeling of dizziness was due to the work on himself and the support of his relatives and specialists. In retrospect, the host can even say that this great moment of vulnerability will have had positive effects, including that he no longer felt like a fraud in his artistic career.
A successful separation
José Gaudet says he feels freer than ever and is living a happy fifty. “It took me so many years to understand that the reasons people liked me were the same reasons people didn’t like me,” he says.
In addition to his professional successes, the comedian is proud of his children, now 19 and 21 years old, and his relationship with them.
“All films about a father-son relationship break me,” he answers when asked what makes him vulnerable in life.
“It hurts, I’m broken, broken, broken. I’m afraid I won’t be a good father. “I want to make sure I’m a good father,” explains the youngest of a family of three who experienced a stormy relationship with his own father.
Spending the last weeks of his life at the side of his father (who died quickly within six weeks) allowed José Gaudet to give balm to his past. In particular about the years of his father’s absence and his lack of understanding of this son with the sensitive artistic temperament.
“I told him I wished I didn’t feel too bad and he apologized,” he says.
The comedian is also proud of his separation from the mother of his children, with whom he was a couple for 18 years.
“We may not have managed to save our relationship, but I think we had one of the best breakups in the universe. We talk to each other all the time, we don’t wage war, we help each other. I’m proud that our children see this. For them, separation is not the same as war,” he said.
