The Interamerican Institute for Democracy, an organization that promotes and defends democratic freedoms in Latin America, held the honorary session in Miami, Florida to present its 2023 awards.
Various personalities were recognized for their contributions to press freedom, journalistic innovation, research and the defense of democracy.
The Inter-American Press Prize “Dr. “Horacio Aguirre.” Among the winners is Grupo Imagen journalist Elizabeth Trenado, in the “Investigative Journalism” citation for her work “Death at Home,” in which she speaks to the relatives of victims of femicide and women who experienced the nightmare have given a voice to violence.
The Mexican journalist said she never imagined being around so many people she has admired throughout her career. He dedicated his speech to the victims of femicide in Mexico: “This recognition is mine, but the truth is that I give it to all those families, those parents, those sisters, those children who were left without a wife.” He noted that they are “heartbreaking stories in which there is not just one victim.” The victims are all women in Mexico.” Finally, he thanked Francisco Zea for the support he received from his home Grupo Imagen.
The Interamerican Institute for Democracy is a private, nonprofit think tank based in the United States dedicated to promoting and spreading the values of freedom, democracy, human rights and institutions in America. This institute is pluralistic and non-partisan and is composed of academics, politicians, professionals and business people of different nationalities.
To achieve its goals, it conducts scientific research, seminars, colloquia and events, ensuring an environment of pluralism and tolerance. In addition, it has an editorial fund for the publication of works that contribute to the dissemination and defense of these values. The Institute also focuses on integrating the academic aspects of political science into political practice, thus aiming to promote a more realistic discipline and better preparation for the pursuit of political activities.
