Guatemalan President-elect Bernardo Arévalo has denounced that the prosecutor's investigation to annul this year's general elections, which he won, is nothing more than an “absurd coup, ridiculous and perverse.” Assured during a press conference last night Arévalo, who was due to take office in the highest state office on January 14, 2024 as successor to Alejandro Giammattei, said that the allegations made against the Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) and against himself were unfounded, adding that in his opinion he had evidence which also refute the money laundering allegations.
Finally, he alluded to the parts of the judiciary that are trying to block the presidential democratic transition process, arguing that “the coup plotters are making the desperate gestures of those on the verge of drowning, trying to carry out an unlikely coup.” .
