After a cold open joke about Congress' crazy anti-Semitism hearing and Adam Driver delivering a piano-driven serenade during his monologue targeting Tesla Cybertruck buyers, Saturday Night Live musical guest Olivia Rodrigo showed off her own piano ( and singing) skills with a sparkling rendition of her hit single “Vampire”.

The Rolling Stone cover star showed off her delicate yet powerful vocals during the slow-burning piano serenade version of the song:

“I used to think I was smart/But you made me look so naive/The way you sold me for parts/When you sank your teeth into me, oh/Bloodsucker, fame fucker/Bleeding me dry, like a “Goddamn vampire,” she sang, her voice shaking.

The performance marked Rodrigo's second appearance as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live and came on the heels of her successful sophomore album GUTS, which was named the fifth best album of 2023 by Rolling Stone and was nominated for two Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Pop vocal album.

In her Rolling Stone cover story, Rodrigo opened up about the making of GUTS and how she felt it should be more lighthearted than her debut album Sour, which was more of a dark breakup album about her co-writer, “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” “was. Star Joshua Bassett.

“Our goal was to make something more playful, a record that doesn't take itself so seriously,” says Rodrigo. “The last album was definitely a breakup record, much to my chagrin… I really tried to do it differently, but that was it. I feel much happier these days. Everything is pretty good. So I wasn’t planning on doing anything particularly devastating, a ballad record.”

Rodrigo later returned for a performance of her pop-rock banger “All-American Bitch,” during which the singer donned a pink dress and howled her lyrics while destroying a fancy pastry-adorned dining table and plunging a knife into a cake .

“Forgive and I forget/I know my age and act like it/Have what you can't resist/I'm a perfect All-American,” she sang.

She ended things by crying into the microphone, throwing cake in her face, smudging the aforementioned pink dress, and sticking her tongue out at the audience. Excellent stuff.
