Rain, snow and fog: the weather changes continue on Sunday

The weekend ends on a rainy Sunday morning marked by icy conditions across southern and central Quebec before heavy snowfall full of moisture gives way Monday morning to start the week.

The weather will cool late Sunday after the province experienced unseasonably warm temperatures this weekend.

In regions affected by ice, including Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Les Escoumins, Charlevoix, Quebec and Rivière Manicouagan, there is a risk of damage to “surfaces such as roads, streets, sidewalks and parking lots.” according to Environment Canada.

The government agency is advising drivers to exercise caution because of icy conditions but also a blanket of fog expected to cover roads in central and southern Quebec during the day Sunday.

The southern bank of the St. Lawrence River will receive the most precipitation. First in the form of rain during the day, then heavier snow overnight into Monday morning.

Predicted precipitation accumulations are 10 to 20 mm, mixed with snow accumulations of up to 15 cm, depending on location.

Monday will be significantly colder compared to this weekend and will again reach seasonal temperatures below zero degrees. The snow will be heavy and full of moisture at the start of the day, forming sticky snow that then becomes grainier as the day progresses.
