The Bronx Bombers also got their hands on midfielder Trent Grisham. They gave away gunners Michael King, Jhony Brito and Randy Vasquez, receiver Kyle Higashioka and junior Drew Thorpe to the California team. The latter, a pitcher, was the second-best prospect in the organization.

Soto has been playing in Major League Baseball since 2018 after spending the first four and a half years of his career in the Washington Nationals jersey. The man who earned three All-Star Game invitations and won four Silver Sticks could become a free agent at the end of the 2024 season.

Last year, the Dominican Republic native had a .275 batting average, had 125 hits, including 35 home runs, and drove in 109 runs in 162 games.

Soto joined the Padres via trade in 2022 after rejecting a contract extension offer from the Nats. The offer would have a term of 15 years and a value of $440 million.

Grisham, for his part, played 153 games for the Padres last year. The 27-year-old posted a .198 plate average and hit 13 long balls.

This is the second transaction for the Yankees in as many days. The day before, they acquired outfielder Alex Verdugo from the Boston Red Sox.
