Oof dah

There couldn't have been a worse start for a Seahawks team trying to avoid a three-game loss without its starting quarterback.

Christian McCaffrey ran 72 yards on the first play from scrimmage, a demoralizing start for a Seahawks defense that has had few answers to this 49ers offense the past two seasons.

On the next play, Jordan Mason ran in from three yards out and the 49ers immediately took a 7-0 lead.

More bad news for the Seahawks' defense later in the first quarter: rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon suffered a lower back injury while breaking up a pass intended for George Kittle, and it is questionable whether he will return.

The Seahawks are already playing without cornerback Tre Brown, who is inactive due to a heel injury.

Locked

There couldn't have been a better start for Drew Lock in his debut as the Seahawks' starting quarterback.

With Geno Smith out with a groin injury, the Seahawks had to turn the offense over to Lock at the end of the week with minimal preparation time.

Lock looked confident on Seattle's first drive, leading an eight-play, 75-yard drive capped by his big touchdown on a 31-yard touchdown pass to DK Metcalf.

Run it

The return of Kenneth Walker III (oblique) should give the Seahawks' offense a boost this week.

And maybe he still will.

Early on, however, it was rookie Zach Charbonnet's impressive performance that gave this offense a much-needed boost.

Charbonnet had two consecutive big runs late in the first quarter and had 42 yards on three carries in the first quarter, which helped set up Jason Myers for a 40-yard field goal late in the first quarter to give the Seahawks a 10-0 lead -Guide.

Nice rebound from the Seahawks offense so far.
