Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, daughter of mom June Shannon, died Saturday evening at age 29, according to an Instagram post from her mother on Sunday.
“It is with broken hearts that we announce that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. She passed away peacefully in my home last night at 11:12 p.m. She fought hard for ten months and died surrounded by her family,” Shannon wrote in the post along with a picture of the family. She thanked fans for their continued support and love.
The announcement comes after Mama June posted a post on Friday asking for continued prayers for the family as “things have changed over the last few weeks that were out of our control.” She added that Caldwell is still with the family but that “God has all the faith, holds all the cards.”
Cardwell rose to fame after starring with her family on the TLC reality TV shows “Toddlers & Tiaras” and “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.”
In a separate Instagram post, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson paid tribute to her older sister and described their final moments together.
“This is a post I wish I didn't have to do,” the 18-year-old wrote alongside a broken heart emoji.
“Last night we all surrounded Anna with love and told her it was okay to leave. Unfortunately, Anna took her last breath around 11 p.m. Anna was in so much pain last night but now as a family we all know she is now at peace.
“I really don't know what to say as my heart is completely broken. It wasn't easy watching my 29-year-old sister battle this terrible disease last year. Anna was a fighter and still is,” she added.
In January, Caldwell was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma, a rare form of cancer, after suffering from stomach pains. Doctors soon found cancer in her liver, kidneys and lungs.
In May, Shannon opened up about her struggles with social media and her daughter's diagnosis, telling People, “I don't go live [on TikTok] A lot because of Anna. I'm already emotionally drained because of this.” Shannon also moved from Alabama to Georgia to be there for Caldwell during treatment.
Cardwell began dating Elridge Toney in 2019 and posted a photo of herself with him in May with an update on her third round of chemo. Cardwell is also survived by two daughters, Kaitlyn Elizabeth and Kylee Madison, born in 2012 and 2015.
