Bryan Adams has shed light on the true meaning of his iconic 1984 hit Summer Of '69.
Many thought the sunshine anthem was reminiscent of the rocker's heady summers in 1969, but the Canadian star has now revealed the truth.
The 64-year-old singer admitted he wanted to name the song “Best Days Of My Life” but instead opted for the 69 sex position – something he previously claimed fans would be “thick” about they wouldn't notice.
He told the Sunday Times: “Well, I was going to call the song 'Best Days of My Life' but the mention of '69' seemed a bit more provocative. 'Isn't this breakfast conversation a bit sexy?'
When asked about “the best days of his life,” he added, “Oh, the best days are now, always now.” When I wrote this song, I tried with all my might to imagine or fantasize what life would bring , but now I’m there and, you know, it’s great.”

Many believed the sunshine anthem was reminiscent of the rocker's heady summers in 1969, but in a new interview with the Sunday Times he revealed the truth
In 2008, Bryan confessed, “There's a little misconception that it's about a year, but it's not… '69' has nothing to do with about a year, it has to do with a sexual position.”
“At the end of the song the lyrics say, “It’s me and my baby in a 69.” “You would have to be pretty stupid if you couldn’t understand this text.”
He later said, “I only ever wrote that title because it made me laugh.”
Despite his cheeky claims, the song's co-writer Jim Vallance insisted that the ending of the track was just a cheeky aside and that the song was about the year for him.
He added: “I don't pretend to speak for Bryan.” “Two of us wrote the song… Maybe he was thinking about something completely different… but I was thinking about that great summer when I turned 17.”
Bryan's openness about the song will come as a shock to some, considering there was an awkward exchange last year when he refused to discuss the track.
While promoting his 15th album So Happy It Hurts, journalist Belinda Russell said: “1969 was a pretty big year in history though.” The Moon Landing, Woodstock. But you were just a child back then. So what's the story behind “Summer of '69”?

In July this year, a crazed fan stormed onto the stage to sing along with a performing Bryan – before being pushed off the stage by the rocker's security.
The unauthorized feature occurred at his recent concert in Salt Lake City, Utah, when the Canadian crooner attempted to sing the opening bars of “Summer of '69.”
Footage of the incident showed how, as Bryan sat back to catch his breath, the overzealous admirer was seen charging within feet of the musician.
The man – dressed in black jeans and a white T-shirt – grabbed the microphone before continuing the song himself with a garbled warble. Before he was arrested, the concert crasher was able to utter the lyrics “Bought it at five o'clock.”
Despite the incident, Bryan – who appeared confused but unfazed by the interruption – still stuck to his iconic statement, “It was the summer of 1969”, apparently completely unfazed by the disruption.
