London, paralyzed Italian student's powerful graduation speech: “Fight for the freedom I have lost”

Leonardo Lotto at the CEMS graduation ceremony 2023, which brings together the best students in the world of the Master in International Management

From paralysis in Australia to graduation in London. Less than ten months after the accident in Melbourne (an unfortunate dive that left him paralyzed from the head down), Aosta student Leonardo Lotto managed a difficult task: he passed the two exams he needed to get a master's degree in management and graduated graduated from London at the age of 24. An exceptional day for Leonardo, celebrated by the audience of professors and graduates of the Cems, which brings together the best students in the world of the Master in International Management. In the middle of the stage, in his wheelchair, Leonardo gave a powerful, emotional speech that touched everyone. A standing ovation and endless applause for this boy of incredible strength.

Here are the most important words of his speech:
“First of all, I would like to thank my parents, my mother and my father. You are the heroes. We have already won a lot, we win a lot together. You give me strength and courage, nothing can adequately explain how grateful I am to you. You are my superheroes. Thanks from 3'05 to 3'23

I thank those who saved my life, who pulled me out of the water when I was no longer breathing. I don't know what else I could say to thank you.

I address all of you at Cems, who are not only the best colleagues, the best students and managers in the world. They have something very special that isn't so obvious these days: empathy. And that makes me optimistic that you will change the world. I am certain

Anyone who knew me before knows how important freedom was to me. And now that I have lost it, that I have lost my independence and autonomy, I have understood even more how important freedom is. Freedom is the most important value of all and we must fight for the freedom of the people. If we are free today, it is because someone fought for us and made us free. Let's never forget it.
