The Oceanic slows down the Remparts home series

The Rimouski Océanic will host the Memorial Cup tournament in 2025.

This was announced by the independent committee of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) on Monday.

The Bas-Saint-Laurent organization was chosen over the Shawinigan Cataractes organization. This is the second time that Océanic has hosted the prestigious competition. The last time was in 2009.

“We are thrilled to return to Quebec and the city of Rimouski for the 105th edition of the Memorial Cup,” CHL President Dan MacKenzie said in a press release.

“I would like to thank the work and time our selection committee spent analyzing two compelling applications. I would like to thank the Shawinigan Cataractes for submitting an exceptional application and making the committee's decision extremely difficult. On behalf of the CHL, we look forward to working with the Océanic organization and the city of Rimouski to organize an unforgettable event in 2025.”

The tournament was last played on the territory of a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team in 2022, when the Saint John Sea Dogs received that honor. The Remparts de Québec were the last to organize the competition on Quebec soil in 2015.
