247 Through diplomatic contacts, the government of Javier Milei is trying to cancel the $5 billion swap agreement that China signed with the government of Alberto Fernández, Página12 reported.
Last Sunday, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino met with Chinese envoy Wu Weihua. They discussed the barter agreement and also declared Argentina's willingness to maintain trade relations with the communist government.
Milei also sent a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping asking for his assistance in expediting the process and ensuring the necessary resources to meet urgent financial obligations to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The moves come after China warned last month that it would be a “big mistake” for Argentina to cut ties with “countries as big as Brazil and China,” a possibility Milei suggested during the election campaign.
