Wild: Dean Evason cried with his GM as he was fired – TVA Sports

Dean Evason was fired as head coach of the Minnesota Wild on November 27th and spoke about how he heard the news.

Speaking on the “Cam and Strick Podcast”, the former coach of the Minnesota team did not hide the emotions that prevailed when general manager Bill Guerin announced his departure.

“I looked at him and said, 'Are you going to fire me?'” he said. He [Bill Guerin] nodded, stood up, walked around the desk and then hugged himself. I'll be honest with you, we both cried.

At the time of his firing, the Wild had just suffered seven straight losses to start the season and 14 losses in 19 games.

“We sat down, I thanked him and we talked about the team and what it needed, the future of the organization, my future, his future, the family,” Evason continued.

In 251 games behind the Wild bench, Evason compiled a record of 147-77-27. After his dismissal, Guerin decided to hire John Hynes as the new head coach. Since taking over, the St. Paul-based club has a record of 5-2-0.
