Geneva, December 13 (RHC) Numerous delegations from around the world will meet this Wednesday in Geneva, Switzerland, to inaugurate the Global Refugee Forum, aimed at alleviating the situation of displaced people and host countries.
The three-day forum, which ends next Friday, is the largest quadrennial international meeting on refugee issues.
Its purpose is to support the practical implementation of the objectives set out in the Global Compact on Refugees, which include reducing pressures on host countries and improving refugee self-reliance.
The goals also include improving access to solutions from third countries and improving conditions in the countries of origin.
The meeting will enable States and stakeholders to make concrete commitments and contributions, demonstrate progress, share best practices and assess barriers and future prospects related to refugees.
It is convened by five countries (Colombia, France, Japan, Jordan and Uganda) and co-sponsored by the government of Switzerland and the UN refugee agency UNHCR.
As the number of refugees increases due to armed conflict, environmental pressures and natural disasters, this year's forum will help alleviate a growing international problem. (Spring: Prensa Latina).
