peace light for Monegasque royal couple

Linz (OTS) – Yesterday, Wednesday, at the Prince's Palace of Monaco, all eyes were on the ORF Peace Light Child Michael de Steyr. A delegation from Upper Austria with Governor Thomas Stelzer and the ORF Regional Director in Upper Austria, Klaus Obereder, handed the light of peace to Prince Albert II and his wife, Princess Charlène.

ORF Peace Light has a long tradition. The Christmas symbol of peace has been circulating around the world for 37 years. Yesterday the Light of Peace was handed over to Prince Albert II and his wife, Princess Charlène. The royal couple are known for their diverse and international commitment to peace. Delivering the ORF Peace Light to international personalities has been a tradition for years. In recent years, Pope Francis, the King of Belgium and the Presidents of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker and Ursula von der Leyen, have received the Light of Peace.

In his speech at the Prince's Palace, the governor stressed that the message of the light of peace was more important and relevant than it had been for decades. “If today we had not traveled around 730 kilometers from Linz to Monaco, but rather headed east, we would now be in Lemberg, Ukraine, in a country where there is a terrible war. A look at the map makes it clear how important it is now to talk about peace in Europe.”

The light of peace should also be a reminder to once again seek more cooperation, the state governor continued, “but also to treat each other with respect, even if we have different opinions. This is a task for all of us, whether in politics, at work, in the family or in our circle of friends.”

“We are delighted that Prince Albert II has become one of the ORF Peace Light ambassadors. Especially in these difficult times, it is important to bring the message of peace, which is more than 2,000 years old, to the world”, emphasizes ORF Regional Director Upper Austria, Klaus Obereder.

This year, after the ORF Light of Peace was lit in Bethlehem – due to limited air traffic to Tel Aviv – the ORF Light of Peace was brought to Amman and from there flown to Austria on an Austrian Airlines plane and delivered to the son of Light of Peace, Michael Putz.

The helpful 10-year-old student from Steyr was chosen because of his commitment to the Boy Scouts, young firefighters and altar boys.
