Bull spotted on the loose on train tracks near Newark Penn Station

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) — A bull was spotted running loose on the New Jersey Transit tracks in Newark Thursday morning before it was safely captured.

The first reports came in at Newark Penn Station around 10:30 a.m.

Passengers on passing trains took photos and videos of the unusual sight.

“And I looked out the window and it was there, just trotting along the track,” said Neptune resident Jason Monticelli. “I thought maybe it was a PR stunt by the Red Bulls or something, considering the stadium was right there. But yeah, he was just plodding around. We were just trying to figure out where it came from.”

Police responded to Frelinghuysen Avenue near Victoria Street before multiple agencies eventually found the animal and trapped it in a fenced area near Newark Liberty International Airport.

Newark officials said the bull was tranquilized and was being taken to a local animal shelter.

No injuries were reported throughout the incident.

It is still unclear where the bull came from.

NJ Transit said there were delays of up to 45 minutes between Newark Penn Station and New York Penn Station due to police activity.
