The Utah “Karen” who was caught on video hurling insults at her biracial neighbors and squeezing a pregnant mother's stomach has been charged with assault.
The family's attorney said they plan to file a civil lawsuit against Kathryn Smith, 67, who repeatedly insulted them shortly after moving to Midvale in 2019.
Marcus Stevenson, the Midvale mayor involved in the case, posted on X (officially known as Twitter) on Wednesday saying that Smith was taken into custody “due to her outstanding warrants.”
The arrest warrant, shared with ABC News, revealed Smith was charged with assault by the Unified Police Department and released Wednesday.
“Imagine how it would feel if someone told your children that they were dogs or monkeys, you know, and then you had no choice but to talk to this woman who then treated you even more cruelly “said Tyler Ayres, the family's lawyer.

Smith was taken into custody Tuesday evening on outstanding warrants and charged with assault
Authorities said they were called to the scene in June after the mother, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that Smith approached her children and began yelling at them.
The mother then confronted Smith about the incident, which was then recorded and has since gone viral on social media, where she called the mother a “fat idiot” and the family “idiots.”
The confrontation in a video begins with Smith sitting in a lawn chair, talking on the phone, when the disheartened mother approaches her.
“Don’t say shit.” “Please call the police,” says the mother.
“Get off my damn property,” Smith replies.
“Don’t talk to the children,” says the mother.
Smith then stands up from her chair and violently points her finger at the mother's face. “Keep your damn dog on a leash,” Smith yells.
The mother replies: “Don't talk to my children.” C*** do you understand?'
“I don't even know if you have more than one child, but do you want to know something? “I’m not talking to your kids, so get the fuck out,” Smith says.
“Don’t say shit to the damn kids,” says the angry mother.
Smith then starts dancing and taunts the mother by saying, “Oh, Mama Bear.” I'm so scared of you. I'm so scared of you, Mama Bear.'
“Just because you squirted a child out of your cunt doesn’t mean you’re worthy of being a mother,” Smith says.
The mother then says, “Touch me,” before Smith says, “Taunt me.”
“The kids can be outside and there’s no damn reason why you’re talking to them,” the mother continues.
“They're down at our house, they're not at your house. 'There's no damn reason.'
Smith, returning to her lawn chair, holds her phone to her ear before quickly standing up and saying, “It's a free country. 'Get out of my face.'

Then the mother asks Smith, 'Is it a damn free country?' What are you going to do?'
“Yeah, that’s it and your fucking fat ass is talking – get the damn baby out of there,” Smith says as she touches the mother’s pregnant baby.
The video shows Smith “forcibly thrusting” and “squeezing” the mother's pregnant belly with both hands.
Another video showed Smith driving past the family home and shouting hateful comments at the family.
“I heard you have a baby in there in diapers,” Smith can be heard telling the mother as she walks her dog across the street.
In another clip, Smith slowly drove her car past her house and said, “Hey, n****.”
Tyler Ayres, the family's attorney, told Axios Salt Lake City that the family “lost their jobs because of the matter and has had to keep their children home from school as a result.”
“They’re all in therapy for it, and that’s why it cost them a lot of money.”
Smith is seen making fun of the mother when she says, “Oh, Mama Bear.” I'm so afraid of you. I'm so scared of you, Mama Bear.
On several occasions, Smith was also seen driving past the family home and shouting racial slurs and profanities at the parents and children

Ayres also revealed that Smith began tormenting the family shortly after they moved into the neighborhood in 2019.
Midvale Mayor Marcus Stevenson reported the encounter online, saying: “It is difficult to describe how disgusted I am to learn that one of our Midvale families is living in a situation where they are regularly subjected to racist tirades and feels that their safety is at risk.'
Ayres said the family planned to meet with Stevenson on Tuesday to discuss the matter further.

Smith has not reached a plea agreement but is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 11, Midvale Justice Court said.
“This woman has no sense. She has no filter and no sense of right or wrong. She believes that she has the right to do whatever she wants, regardless of the impact it has on everyone else. And she’s learning that’s not the case,” Ayres said.
