An Al Jazeera journalist was killed and another injured in an Israeli strike in the Gaza Strip on Friday, December 15, the Qatari broadcaster reported. “It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of the loss of our dedicated Al Jazeera cameraman Samer Abou Daqa,” Mohamed Moawad, editor-in-chief of the Qatari TV channel, wrote on X.

According to Al Jazeera, Samer Abou Daqa was seriously injured but remained at the scene of the attack for hours, where rescue workers were unable to reach because the road was blocked by the rubble of a house. Wael Dahdouh, also a journalist with Al Jazeera, was injured in the arm and taken to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younes, according to AFP. Wael Dahdouh's wife and two of his children were killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza on October 25.

A first bombing targeted a school run by the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Khan Younes, which the two Al Jazeera journalists were reporting on when a second bombing took place, according to a press release from the Hamas movement, which rules Gaza. According to the Palestinian Islamist movement, this second attack “deliberately targeted journalists.” More than 60 journalists and media workers have died since the war between Hamas and Israel began on October 7th.
