Let's say a team has won its last three games and allowed a maximum of three goals in each of those wins. If they are at home today, bet against them assuming the odds for the away team to win are better than -135.
Let's see how this affects one of Friday's games. The Islanders play at home against the Boston Bruins. New York has won four straight home games, outscoring its opponents 18-11.
Their opponents failed to score more than three goals in any of these games.
Even without two key players
With my “The Stingy Goalies” betting strategy, the Islanders should lose on Friday. That's why my pick for the National Hockey League is the Boston Bruins, who will win at UBS Arena.
The Bruins will be without key players Charlie McAvoy and Paul Zacha, who are injured. David Pastrnak was held in check in three of the last four games and the Bruins still managed to take a 4-2 lead.
But the Islanders are the perfect team for Pastrnak to get back on track, as he has two goals and six assists in his last five games against New York.
The Islanders have been playing well of late and are currently on a four-game winning streak.
The Bruins have the upper hand
However, the Bruins have won each of their last five meetings against the Isles.
New York's Ilya Sorokin is 3-0-1 this month but has conceded at least three goals in each of his last seven games. This is a big concern for the Islanders as they prepare to play one of the best teams in the NHL.
On the Boston side, Linus Ullmark has allowed three goals in each of his last three starts, but is expected to bounce back with a similar performance to the last time these teams met, when he made 27 of 29 shots against the Islanders a 5-pointer stopped -2 Bruins win.
For all of these reasons, I'm backing the Bruins as slight away favorites against the Islanders.
