A suspected Israeli secret service agent Mossadwas executed this Saturday (16) in Iran, the official IRNA news agency reported.
“This individual communicated with foreign services, in particular the Mossad, collected classified information and, with the participation of employees, provided documents to foreign services, including the Mossad,” the agency said. The person's name was not disclosed.
The indictment said the defendant passed confidential information to a “Mossad official” for the purpose of “propaganda for groups and organizations opposed to the Islamic Republic.” It was not known where the alleged delivery took place.
It was not clear when the person was arrested, but IRNA said an appeal had been rejected.
The execution, which took place at a prison in Zahedan in SistanBalochistan province, came a day after Baloch militants attacked a police station in the province, killing 11 security force members and wounding several others.
According to state television, a state funeral for the men was held on Saturday in the town of Rask, where the attack took place. Two militants from the Jaish alAdl group were also killed in subsequent clashes.
The impoverished SistanBaluchistan province, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan, has long been the scene of frequent clashes between security forces and Sunni militants. The province's population is predominantly Sunni Muslims, while the majority of Iranians are Shiites.
