Busted fiercely attacks McFly while admitting “an absolute rivalry” between the bands

The punk-pop bands were famously rivals at the height of their success in the noughties.

In 2013, Busted and McFly shocked fans when they formed supergroup McBusted – sans Charlie Simpson – but split just two years later.

And now Busted trio Matt Willis, James Bourne and Charlie Simpson have lashed out at McFly while admitting there is “an absolute rivalry” between the bands.

The What I Go To School For hitmakers claimed that “nobody remembers” McFly – whose members include Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd.

The Busted boys also insisted there was “no more competition” while claiming they were “the clear favourites”.

The Busted boys also stressed that there was “no more competition” while claiming that they were “the clear favourites”.

When asked by The Sun about the competition between the two bands, Charlie Simpson admitted: “It's not sneaky, it's an absolute rivalry.”

“There is no competition anymore, we are the clear favourites!” added James Bourne, before stressing: “Nobody remembers them anymore.”

“Whenever people would come up to me and say, 'Oh, wait, like I like you.' But you know, I also like “McFly.” Now they just say, 'I'm so glad you're back.' They don't say anything about her.'

Referring to McFly frontman Tom Fletcher, Matt Willis added: “Yeah [they say] “We like you and we like Tom's band, you know, the rest of these guys.”

This comes after it was reported that Charlie will return to The Masked Singer in December, but this time as a judge, after winning the 2023 series as Rhino in February.

The Busted frontman will join regular panelist Rita Ora for one night only as she will miss three shows due to other work commitments.

Olly Murs and Jennifer Saunders will appear in the jury's other two episodes after she was announced as Nicole Scherzinger's successor earlier this year.

“Skipping three episodes out of eight feels like a pretty big deal, so viewers will definitely miss Rita, she's such a fan favorite,” a source told The Sun.

“But mixing up the panel is also another fun way to keep the program fresh.”

“Jennifer brings a whole new energy, while Olly is a natural go-to at talent shows. “It will be interesting to see what Charlie brings to the table.”

Rita admitted she is “disappointed” to have missed some episodes, but she believes the show's bosses have found a great replacement.

She said, “I'm sorry to miss a few episodes. But that's made up for by some great guest panelists who I've learned are also extremely competitive and will keep the others on their toes.”
