An Israeli soldier was killed and two others were injured in a drone strike from Lebanon on the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights. The Israeli army confirmed on Saturday night that the explosive-laden drone hit the city of Margaliot. Israel's air defense managed to intercept a second enemy aircraft coming from Lebanon in the morning, the military said. In response, targets in Lebanon were attacked.
It was initially unclear who launched the drones. The Lebanese militia Hezbollah only stated that it attacked Israeli soldiers in the morning. Since the start of the war in Gaza, following the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7, there have been repeated clashes between the Israeli army and militant groups such as Hezbollah in the Israeli-Lebanese border region. It is the worst escalation since the second Lebanon war in 2006.
