U.S. and British warships shot down 15 suspected attack drones launched by Houthi rebels in Yemen over the Red Sea on Saturday, repelling the Iranian-controlled group's latest attack on one of the world's busiest shipping routes, as the War between Israel and Hamas threatened to spread.

The American destroyer USS Carney intercepted 14 drones fired from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. They “were shot down without any damage to ships in the area or any injuries reported,” U.S. Central Command said.

The British HMS Diamond also destroyed a drone that “targeted merchant shipping,” said British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps.

He added that attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels on commercial vessels “pose a direct threat to international trade and maritime security.”

“The UK remains committed to deterring these attacks to protect the free flow of global trade,” he said in a statement.

Global shipping has become a major target during the war between Israel and Hamas, which like the Houthis is backed by Iran.
