Man executed in Iran for 'collaborating with Mossad'

Iran's judiciary on Saturday executed a man convicted of collaborating with Israel's Mossad intelligence agency, the judicial authority said.

“This morning (Saturday) the death penalty was imposed on the spy of the Zionist regime in the prison of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan-Baluchestan province,” Mizan Online said, without revealing the identity of the convict.

The judiciary accused this man of “intelligence cooperation and espionage for the benefit” of Israel, “collection of secret information” and “propaganda for the benefit of groups and organizations that are against the Islamic Republic of Iran”.

Iran has repeatedly announced the arrests of agents working for intelligence agencies of other countries, including its arch-enemy Israel.

The Islamic Republic has already accused Israel of sabotaging some of its nuclear facilities and murdering several Iranian scientists.

Sistan-Balochistan borders Pakistan and Afghanistan and is a disadvantaged region where attacks or clashes between law enforcement and armed groups are common.

Eleven police officers were killed there on Saturday in one of the deadliest attacks by a Baloch jihadist group active in the region.

In December 2022, four men were hanged after being sentenced to death for “cooperating” with Israel.

According to a tally by Norway-based human rights group Iran Human Rights (IHR), more than 600 people had been executed in Iran by the end of October this year, the highest annual number in eight years.
