A 78 year old man with Alzheimer39s is missing in Collado Villalba

Every day, 78-year-old Germán Navas went for coffee at the Collado Villalba senior center. As part of his routine, he left the house after dinner, went to the center and stayed a little longer when there was dancing there. His wife already knew that he could come home later on some Saturdays. But on this December 16th, when 7:30 p.m. had passed and he had not given any signal, he began to worry. No one slept in the Navas house last night. Almost 24 hours later, there is no clue as to his whereabouts. The Civil Guard has launched a search operation.

Her daughter Susana tells EL PAÍS that when her mother was worried, she went to the store and saw that it was closed. “That’s when we started to fear the worst,” he explains. Together – he has three children – they scoured the city. The areas I used to walk through. “Now he has Alzheimer’s and takes pills for diabetes and high blood pressure,” he says. Before even filing a complaint, they checked with the local hospital, but there was no sign of him being there either, they were told.

Navas was wearing dark blue pants, a red checked shirt and a green-brown jacket. According to the description on the missing person's poster, he is 1.70 meters tall. The Civil Guard has launched a search operation since this Sunday morning. According to a police spokeswoman, the last time anyone saw him was around 6:30 p.m. on Real Street in the municipality of Collado Villalba.

Navas has lived in the community with his wife for more than 40 years. Many in the area knew him as the fruit boy at the Jiménez fruit shop. This Sunday, his daughter hopes that someone will recognize him and his phone will ring with good news. “We looked everywhere, but no one saw him,” complains Susana.
