Gaza: Pictures of "Largest terror tunnel ever discovered" shared by the IDF

The Israeli army says it has discovered a 4 km long tunnel, the entrance to which is just a few hundred meters from the tightly controlled Erez border crossing. BFMTV was able to go there.

The underground network used by Hamas in Gaza continues to surprise. More than two months after the start of the war between Israel and the terrorist group, the IDF released images of the “largest terror tunnel ever discovered.”

Accompanied by Israeli soldiers, BFMTV was able to view a small part of the 4-kilometer-long subway. We could see that it was a passageway large enough to accommodate vehicles, with a height of two meters and a similar width.

“The tunnel has several branches and sections, forming a wide and branched tunnel network. There are sewers, electricity, communications and telephone networks along the route,” the Israeli army explains in a press release. Weapon caches and food supplies were found there.

A multi-million dollar project

This complex, likely used by Hamas to move out of sight, was built discreetly. As BFMTV observed, the entrance is only a few hundred meters from the strictly controlled Erez border post. Israel had no knowledge of the construction site.

“According to our estimates, Hamas has invested millions of dollars in Gaza’s underground network,” the IDF said in its press release.

This uncovered part would represent only a small part of a vast network, as General Jérôme Pellistrandi, defense advisor to BFMTV, explained. Hamas reportedly has a “kind of underground spider web, a network of 500 to 800 km of more or less sophisticated tunnels.”
