Israel says it has hit Hezbollah facilities after attacks from Lebanon

Israel said on Sunday it had attacked Hezbollah weapons launch sites and facilities in Lebanon in response to crossborder shootings, while the Iranbacked group said it had attacked Israeli army targets.

Israeli and Hezbollah fighters have fired almost daily at the border since the war in Gaza began more than two months ago, marking the worst hostilities since the 2006 conflict.

The violence, which was largely confined to the border area, left more than 130 people dead in Lebanon, including 94 Hezbollah fighters and 17 civilians. In Israel, eight soldiers and four civilians were killed in the hostilities.

The Israeli military said it responded to Hezbollah attacks with artillery, tank fire and air strikes on launch sites, a Lebanese group observation post and a socalled “terror cell.”

Hezbollah said it fired on a number of Israeli military targets along the border, including reportedly a barracks, a command center and an army crane installing surveillance equipment.

Israel has reported no casualties from the attacks, which set off rocket sirens in areas of northern Israel.
