Here's how to get started with the Proton Mail desktop app

Unexpectedly, the Proton Mail desktop application has just been released, but its distribution is still limited. This will allow you to take full advantage of Proton Mail and Proton Calendar from your Windows or macOS computer, but the Linux version is already in the works.

The Proton Mail desktop app is currently in beta. Announced a few days ago, it offers fairly basic features but allows you to forgo a web browser to manage your secure email and calendar.

Offline support is not yet available. No notification badge for unread messages either: this will be available early next year, with a number of other useful features such as managing “mailto” links, ICS files or even changing accounts.

Currently, the beta version of the Proton Mail desktop app is available is reserved for all Visionary plan holders. Access to the beta version will be available to all Proton Mail users in early 2024. The Visionary subscription costs €29.99 per month and offers access to 6 users, 6 TB of data and early access to the publisher's new applications.

Developed as open source, the Proton Mail application is available for Windows 10, Windows 11 and macOS. The developers are already working on a Linux version that will be available in early 2024: “Until then, if you use Linux, we recommend using the Proton Mail web app or Proton Mail Bridge for Linux.” »
