An 85-year-old woman was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in Montreal North on Sunday evening.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) was alerted to a hit-and-run following a collision at the intersection of Léger and Sainte-Gertrude boulevards around 10:15 p.m.

Police officers dispatched to the scene discovered that the victim had serious injuries to his head and legs, said SPVM spokeswoman Véronique Dubuc.

The octogenarian, who was transported conscious to a hospital, is now out of danger, medical sources at the SPVM confirmed.

According to initial information, the octogenarian was crossing Léger Boulevard when she was hit by a westbound vehicle before fleeing.

SPVM collision investigators went to the scene to analyze the accident scene, which was protected by a large security perimeter.

Investigators will attempt to determine the causes and circumstances of this collision to see whether charges will be filed against the defendant, it said.
