“In Mezz'ora”, the in-depth program by Monica Maggioni on Rai 3, was broadcast live from Jerusalem and left the “comfort zone” of the television studio, with all the linguistic implications that the election brings: less chatter and more concrete factual reporting. In addition, numerous reports from the occupied territories were filmed, which deepened the connection.
It's not possible to do exclusive trips and reports in the hottest places every Sunday, but the special from Israel remains an example of good information. Maggioni's guests included Itai Anghel (“After October 7, the relationship with the Palestinians changed, now it is more difficult to distinguish between good and evil”), Menachem Gantz, Sami Al Ajrami, Lorenzo Cremonesi, General Noam Tibon and many other.
No one has spared criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his way of governing and his handling of the war situation. However, it is difficult to understand why now, in the widespread comments, all the blame should fall on Israel and no, people are no longer wondering about the massacres, about the rapists on October 7th. Disproportionate reaction from a country completely surrounded and fighting for its survival, as in 1948 and 1967? Do you need to free the hostages immediately?
We do not go into purely political questions, but from the words of Maggioni's interlocutors it was clear that there was also a communication problem: after the Hamas attack in which more than 1,200 people were killed and more than 240 kidnapped (the militiamen broke into Israeli territory and… Israel would have unleashed a “manhunt” against the families and everyone they faced), Israel should have converted the October 7th pogrom into its September 11th pogrom and drawn up a worldwide mourning before it responded. Maybe it could have been understood better that way. These are all hypotheses, reasons for debate.
The big difference is that if Israel accidentally kills three hostages, we find out about it and initiate lawsuits, while we know nothing about Hamas: how much money it receives, how it uses it (in tunnels and rockets?), who is the? it is supported by how Gaza residents are treated.
