Negotiations for a new hostage agreement are gaining momentum. US Defense Secretary Austin and Army Chief Brown want to persuade Israel to adopt a new strategy – fewer bombs, more special forces.
Scenarios are changing, international pressure increases every day in preparation for the festival of peace – and everything threatens to become even more complicated in the negotiations for a new ceasefire in the Gaza war. While in October and November Doha was the center of talks between mediators Qatar and the US with Israel and Hamas, Oslo and now Warsaw have provided the backdrop for the explorations.
In the Norwegian capital, Mossad chief David Barnea met with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani over the weekend to explore the chances of a deal. On Monday, al-Thani traveled to Poland, where he met with CIA chief William Burns. The three protagonists had reached the first agreement, which resulted in the release of 105 Hamas hostages in the Gaza Strip and 240 Palestinian prisoners. At least among the three participants, mutual trust grew.
