Russia announced on Tuesday (19) that it has expanded its list of European Union (EU) officials banned from entering the country in response to the 12th sanctions package adopted by the European Council yesterday.
“In response to these hostile and illegitimate actions that undermine the international legal prerogatives of the UN Security Council, the Russian side has significantly expanded the list of representatives of European institutions and EU member states who are prohibited from entering our territory,” it said Russian Foreign Ministry announced this in a statement.
According to the department, these are representatives of military and commercial organizations “responsible for military support to the neoNazi regime in Kiev.”
The restrictions will also affect participants in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, who voted on October 13 for a resolution aimed at “openly intervening in Russia’s internal affairs” and “discrediting the presidential elections” in March 2024.
Moscow says the new package of European sanctions is another “futile attempt” to put pressure on Russia.
The European Union adopted this Monday (18) its 12th sanctions package against Russia, the main measure of which is the ban on the purchase and export of Russian diamonds.
The measure will come into force on January 1, when the mechanism created by the G7 countries will be applied to track the path of Russian diamonds along the global production chain to ensure the effectiveness of the sanctions measures.
