Several Russian drones attacked Kiev overnight, at least two hit the western city of Kharkiv and nine people were injured in the bombings in Kherson in southern Ukraine, authorities announced on Tuesday (19).
“During the shelling of Kherson by the Russian occupiers last night, nine people were injured, including four children” between the ages of two and 13, the city's mayor, Roman Mrochko, posted on Telegram.
Among the injured, “a mother and her three children were hospitalized. Her condition is moderate. They have bruises and injuries from the explosion,” the mayor added, noting that the other five injured were still being treated at the scene.
According to the head of the capital's military administration, Sergii Popko, Iranianmade Shahed explosive drones were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses on their way to Kiev.
“According to preliminary information (…) there are no casualties or damage,” Popko wrote on Telegram, clarifying that the attack, the fifth against the capital in December, was launched from the Black Sea.
For his part, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terejov reported at least two attacks near residential buildings in the city and was waiting for the report “on casualties and destruction.”
Since the fall, Moscow has stepped up nightly attacks on Ukrainian cities at a time when Western support for Kiev appears to be waning.
US Senate leaders announced on Tuesday that there will be no new aid package for Ukraine before the end of the year.
