Top NFL predictions for Week 16
We can tell you that one of the model's strongest NFL picks for Week 16 is for the Vikings (+3) to face the Lions at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Leaving Ford Field has been a nightmare for Detroit lately, as Detroit has allowed 38 points twice and 28 points twice in its last four road games. That's 33 points allowed per game, even though the Lions have only faced a top-10 offense in that span.
The Minnesota offense recently welcomed back Justin Jefferson, who is partnered with an up-and-coming running back. After averaging just 73.3 rushing yards in the first eight games, the Vikings are averaging 132.3 in the last six games. The model projects RBs Ty Chandler and Alexander Mattison to combine for over 100 scrimmage yards, while Jefferson also reaches triple figures through the air. That offensive balance will be too much for Detroit, on top of Minnesota having the No. 7 defense. The Vikings (+3) cover well over 50% of the time. See what other teams you can choose here.
Another NFL prediction for Week 16: The Dolphins (-1.5) cover the spread at home against the Cowboys on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. Miami had every reason to perform poorly on offense last week, as it was without Tyreek Hill and facing a Jets defense that was a top-10 scorer entering Week 15. However, Miami didn't let up and, despite the draw, won its starters 30-0 at the start of the fourth quarter. While the Dolphins' offense gets most of the attention, one also can't ignore the shutout it handed New York and the noticeable improvement on the defensive side of the ball over the last month.
The Dolphins have given up just 13.8 points per game over the last five games and have averaged 2.6 takeaways in that stretch. Meanwhile, Dallas again failed to act as an underdog last week against Buffalo. The Cowboys have struggled all year long and are 0-3 against the competition as underdogs. Miami is the favorite at 8-2 ATS this season, which is the third-best coverage ratio in the NFL. SportsLine's model projects Miami to be a 1.5-point favorite well over 50% of the time, and it also says the Under (51) will hit well over 50% of simulations.
