Signing Day: IU Football 2024 Commit List, Player Bios, Highlights – IndyStar

Today marks the start of the early signing period for high school football players across the country.

Heading into Wednesday, On3 ranked Indiana's 2024 recruiting class as the 56th best in the country. This class is a mix of former Tom Allen recruits re-offered by Curt Cignetti's staff, some new pickups, and a number of former James Madison recruits.

Here's who's committed to the Hoosiers on Wednesday. We will update once the signings become official. And there may be one or two surprises.

Adedamola Ajani, OL (signed)

High school/hometown: Speedway/Indianapolis, Ind.

Height Weight: 6-4, 270

Rank: 3 stars, #929 in the country, #11 in Indiana, #80 ranked

Ajani re-committed to Indiana's new coaching staff this week after originally choosing the Hoosiers over Duke, Louisville, Marshall, West Virginia and others. As a senior, Ajani was also an impact player on defense for the young Sparkplugs, who finished 3-8. He had 84 tackles, including a team-high 19 for loss, and six sacks.

Charlie Becker, WR (signed)

High school/hometown: Father Ryan/Nashville, Tennessee

Height Weight: 6-3, 198

Rank: 3 stars, #971 in the country, #34 in Tennessee, #139 at position

He was originally signed by the former IU staff, then was re-offered by Curt Cignetti. Becker chose Indiana over Vanderbilt, Iowa, Ole Miss, Northwestern and Appalachian State. He had 30 carries for 565 yards despite playing in just five games that season before an injury wiped out his senior year. He also had 11 touchdowns. Becker won the Division II-AA state championships in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles in track as a junior last spring.

Jah Jah Boyd, DB (signed)

High school/hometown: Roman Catholic/Philadelphia, Penn.

Height Weight: 5-10, 170

Rank: 3 stars, #1,356 in the country, #34 in Pennsylvania, #143 ranked

Boyd was the highest-rated recruit in James Madison history before transferring to IU.

Quentin Clark, LB (signed)

High school/hometown: West Laurens/Dexter, Georgia.

Height Weight: 6-3, 200

Clark, another recruit from the previous staff, remained with the Hoosiers. He chose IU over offers from Liberty, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky. As a junior, Clark recorded 105 tackles, seven tackles for loss, six sacks and five forced fumbles.

Tyler Cherry, QB

High school/hometown: Center Grove/Greenwood, Ind.

Height Weight: 6-4, 220

Cherry, the Mr. Football winner at quarterback, completed 71.5% of his passes for 3,156 yards and 34 touchdowns with six interceptions as a senior. He also ran for four touchdowns. For his career, Cherry completed 68.5% of his passes for 5,461 yards and 56 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. He also ran for eight touchdowns. A former Duke commit, he reopened his recruitment after Mike Elko left for Texas A&M. Cherry, IU's highest-rated recruit, chose IU over Michigan State.

What Cherry's commitment means: “Keeping this guy home is a pretty big deal.”

William Depaepe, Edge (signed)

High school/hometown: Moline/Moline, Ill.

Depaepe, a former Georgia Tech player, had 39 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles as a senior.

Dontrae Henderson, CB (signed)

High school/hometown: Chambers/Charlotte, NC

Henderson, a former James Madison recruit, is following IU's new staff to Bloomington. Of his 16 offers, IU is the only one from a Power 5 school. As a junior, he recorded 53 tackles, four interceptions and 14 pass breakups.

Brody Kosin, TE (signed)

High school/hometown: Clarkston/Davisburg, Michigan

Height Weight: 6-6, 215

Rank: 3 stars, #939 in the country, #18 in Michigan, #54 ranked

Kosin was the first to commit to IU's 2024 class and the first to re-commit following the hiring of Curt Cignetti. He earned first-team all-state honors after recording 42 catches, 876 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior. IU was picked ahead of Pitt, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Duke and Kansas. “IU meets all the criteria I want from a college to play football,” Kosin told The Oakland Press in May. “…The school's academic achievements are excellent, the culture, campus and facilities are all first class. I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to become a member of the Hoosiers football family.”

Mario Landino, DL (signed)

High school/hometown: Emmaus/Emmaus, Pa.

Height Weight: 6-4, 255

Landino had been committed to JMU since the end of June. He received an offer from Indiana on December 4, the same day he announced his decision to reopen his recruitment. The Hoosiers moved quickly to bring Landino to campus, and he committed to IU after one visit.

Evan Lawrence, OT (signed)

High school/hometown: Danville/Danville, Ind.

Height Weight: 6-7, 250

Rank: 3 stars, #1,486 in the country, #21 in Indiana, #105 ranked

Lawrence, who re-committed to the new IU coaching staff, was named an IFCA Top 50 All-State selection after helping Danville to a 7-3 record. He also played some defense and managed 21 tackles and a sack. Lawrence is also a standout basketball player, averaging 13.0 points and 9.5 rebounds as a junior.

Austin Liebfried, OT (signed)

High school/hometown: Mount Horeb/Mount Horeb, Wisc.

Khobie Martin, RB (signed)

High school/hometown: Fischer/Fischer, Ind.

Height Weight: 6-0, 200

Martin recorded 1,379 rushing yards and 19 rushing TDs in nine games for the 7-4 Tigers (he missed two due to injury). In three years with the Fishers, he had 2,746 rushing yards and 38 rushing TDs. Martin was committed to Miami (Ohio) before opening his recruitment and committing to IU under the previous coaching staff. Martin said he plans to sign with IU later this month.

Alberto Mendoza, QB (signed)

High school/hometown: Miami Columbus/Miami, Florida.

Height Weight: 6-2, 190

Curt Cignetti follows Curt Cignetti to Indiana. Florida Atlantic and Temple were also involved after Mendoza parted ways with James Madison. The Florida native, whose brother holds the same position at Cal, comes to Indiana after an illustrious career with one of the Sunshine State's more prestigious programs. As a junior in 2022, Mendoza threw for 2,825 yards and 35 touchdowns, leading Columbus to a 14-1 record and a state title. Mendoza repeated the feat this fall, recording 149 passing yards, 138 rushing yards and a passing and rushing touchdown each in a 38-19 win over the Jacksonville Mandarin to secure its second straight championship.

Daniel Ndukwe, DE

High school/hometown: Arabia Mountain/Lithonia, Georgia.

Height Weight: 6-3/210

Rank: 3 Stars, No. 1,660 in the nation, No. 175 in Georgia, No. 160 in position

Ndukwe added his Indiana offer on the same day he announced his retirement from James Madison. He quickly scheduled an official visit to Bloomington and then enlisted. Ndukwe, also a track athlete and a three-star prospect according to 247Sports, helped Arabia Mountain reach the soccer playoffs in one of Georgia's most competitive classifications.

Christian Peterson, DB

High school/hometown: Carmel/Carmel, Ind.

Height Weight: 5-10, 185

Rank: 3 stars, #1,234 in the country, #16 in Indiana, #132 ranked

Seldom tested on his side of the field, Peterson finished the game with 36 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and a blocked field goal. Peterson accounted for six touchdowns in various ways with two TD receptions, one rushing, one passing, one interception return and one fumble return. Peterson was named to the IFCA Top 50 All-State team.

Josh Philostin, CB

High school/hometown: Cardinal Newman/West Palm Beach, Florida.

Height Weight: 5-10, 165

Rank: 3 stars, #481 in the country, #59 in Florida, #46 at position

Philostin is a state sprint champion and played wide receiver and defensive back. He committed to IU's former staff and was re-offered by Curt Cignetti. “Indiana was the first school to give me back my sophomore year. They remained loyal and consistent throughout the entire process,” Philostin told USA TODAY HSS. Philostin had 29 solo tackles and two interceptions as a senior. He had four interceptions as a junior.

Justus Savage, RB

High school/hometown: Langston Hughes/Fairborn, Georgia.

Mitch Verstegen, OL (signed)
