The World Food Program (WFP) announced on Wednesday the arrival of a convoy carrying 750 tons of food aid in Gaza, the first from Jordan since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas.

This convoy of 46 trucks, organized by the WFP and a Jordanian humanitarian NGO, JHCO, transported 750 tons of food aid and required “weeks of coordination with all parties,” a UN agency press release said. He passed the Kerem Shalom border post.
“The establishment of a corridor through Jordan will increase the flow of aid (…). This will allow us to provide more aid and have more trucks on the road,” Samer AbdelJaber, WFP representative in Palestine, was quoted as saying in the press release.
“We are very grateful to everyone who made this possible. This is a promising step that we hope will allow us more sustainable and broader access to reach more people in Gaza more quickly,” he added.
Israel approved the “temporary” delivery of aid to Gaza through its Kerem Shalom border crossing last Friday, opening a new supply route after weeks of pressure.
“The delivery of food from Jordan to Gaza through the Kerem Shalom border crossing will increase the volume and speed of food deliveries to the Gaza Strip as millions of people are at risk of starvation,” concludes the WFP.
