Fatal hit-and-run in Gatineau: He calls the police to turn himself in –

The man suspected of fatally striking a pedestrian in Gatineau before fleeing Tuesday morning has been arrested, authorities confirmed.

The suspect, Yan Brunet-Bertrand, 40, contacted Gatineau police a few hours after the hit-and-run to tell them he was the perpetrator.

Brunet-Bertrand, who was in Ontario at the time of his call, was arrested by Ontario Provincial Police officers working with Ottawa police.

He was then taken to Gatineau Police Headquarters for questioning.

Yan Brunet-Bertrand, who has no criminal record, appeared in the Gatineau courthouse on Wednesday on a hit-and-run charge involving death.

His vehicle was also seized for investigation purposes.

The 40-year-old man is said to have fatally hit a pedestrian, aged around 40, at around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the intersection of Boulevard Saint-René Ouest and Montée Paiement.

When rescue workers arrived on scene, the victim was lying unconscious on the ground. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver who fatally hit him fled after the impact.
