An Australian fisherman claims to have found parts of the missing plane.

The disappearance of flight MH370 is one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history. After the accident, the wreckage was never found. Now, a fisherman from Australia claims to have discovered parts of the plane during a tour.

“It was the big wing of a big jet plane,” Kit Olver, 77, told the Sydney Herald. He was fishing for the valuable Alfonsino (Northern Slimehead) fish species in a special spot in 2014 when his net got caught in a large object. He was only able to bring it to the surface with difficulty.

The amateur pilot immediately recognized that the wreckage must belong to a large aircraft. “This thing was much bigger than anything that falls into the private aircraft category,” the fisherman said of his discovery. The 77-year-old is certain the wing belongs to the missing Boeing 777 from flight MH370.

“I wish I had never seen that thing”

Despite his efforts, Kit Olver was unable to recover the piano and therefore has no proof of its story. The fisherman claims that the net was unable to contain the large wreck. He and his crew spent an entire day trying to raise the wing. Eventually, they had to give up and cut off the $20,000 net.

“I was looking for a way out. I wish I had never seen that thing,” he says angrily today.

The disappearance of MH370 is still considered one of the greatest mysteries in modern aviation. The Boeing 777-200-ER disappeared on March 8 en route from the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board. What happened then is still uncertain. Apart from some wreckage that washed up on various coasts, there is no trace of the plane. The Boeing is believed to be at the bottom of the Indian Ocean.
