During the main event of a recent WWE show, a star suffered what appeared to be a horrific injury. Now his opponent has apologized.
The star in question is Ilja Dragunov, and his opponent that night was Ridge Holland.
Holland went to NXT and fought Ilja Dragunov in the main event of this week's show. During the game, Dragunov could barely move after a big move in which Holland struck. His hands were stiff and his body was shaking.
The match was stopped as Holland sat shaken at the corner of the ring while doctors and officials examined Dragunov and placed him on a stretcher before bringing him out.
Holland was devastated and has now spoken out about it, saying he is sorry for what happened and that he is not who he is. He also wished the star a speedy recovery.
“I'm sorry for what happened @UNBESIEGBAR_ZAR [Ilja Dragunov]. That's not me. Get well soon,” he wrote.
The injury and this entire aspect seems to be part of an act.
Holland's involvement in this WWE storyline is controversial, as Big E was injured and broke his neck in a match against him. His wrestling career may be over due to the injury. Pretty Deadly's Elton Prince was also injured in a game against Holland, for which the star was blamed, albeit due to a bad landing.
At this point, it remains to be seen where WWE takes the story, although there is some backlash from fans.
