Toronto FC: John Tavares doesn't seem particularly enthusiastic about football

Maple Leafs captain John Tavares was asked to present Toronto FC's first-ever 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft pick, but he gave the impression he wanted to be anywhere but there.

The number 91 announced midfielder Tyrese Spicer's arrival in the Queen City, but his lack of enthusiasm was noticed on social media. Without smiling, he called out the Trinidad and Tobago native's name before returning the antenna.

The reaction from Spicer's family at least made up for this lackadaisical statement. Known for his calm and down-to-earth demeanor, Tavares also experienced such a moment in the past, as he was the first player selected in the 2009 National Hockey League Draft by the New York Islanders.

Toronto FC finished last in the MLS standings with just 22 points in 34 games last season. Once dominant, the “Reds” have not participated in playoff games since 2020.
