French priest Laurent Jullien de Pommerol has resigned from his post after announcing during mass on Sunday (December 17) that he would become a father. Beata parish nun Paulina Jaricot also published a letter asking for forgiveness from the faithful in the CroixRousse district of France. “I understand that this may shock or cause a feeling of betrayal. This process is a very painful break that requires honesty. I am deeply sorry for the pain this causes each of you,” the priest said.
“I humbly ask for your forgiveness, I myself am dismayed by this event. A new responsibility opens up and in the interests of the child and his mother there is no way to avoid me. Some time ago I felt great fears that I didn't or couldn't share with others. I have not made anything appear because its origin has nothing to do with our community life. This ordeal has weakened me greatly and changed my judgment,” added Laurent Jullien.
According to the French newspaper Le Figaro, the priest handed over all parish duties to the Archbishop of Lyon, Olivier de Germay. “As you know, priests agree to live in chastity and renounce marriage by agreeing to the call of the Lord. “This commitment is both demanding and beautiful, it makes it possible to dedicate oneself entirely to the Lord for the mission, in the image of the chaste and poor Christ,” said the Archbishop.
